Exit stage right
Today was my last day at my former job. It feels great to say that. Former.
You already know how I feel about the place. But there are a few things I will honestly miss.
I’ll miss the Citgo sign, and going on the roof to visit it. I’ll miss the view and being alone on that roof on a cold day, or when we’d sometimes grill food up there.
I’ll miss the only other person there with a heart, Alex. He’s a OG punker who’s been going to shows since the 70s. He has two 13th Floor Elevators tattoos and would tell me about going to the Talking Heads’ like, second show ever. When Alex Chilton died we talked for ages about how amazing Sister Lovers is and we even had a little moment of silence in memory of Chilton, just the two of us. I’ll miss how we’d both show up to work in leather jackets and motorcycle boots, despite a 30 year age gap.
I’ll miss the pub next door and the amazing, kind as hell wait staff there. They always have Frank Sinatra playing at lunch time and man, there were many days when I REALLY needed a good dose of Franky. William, one of the bartenders, would always tell me stories of some of my work superiors coming in and getting sloshed on the company’s dime, which were consistently hilarious. And I always think that what makes a good bartender is the ability to recognise when customers want to vent and when they need to be left alone at the end of the bar. William is great at that.
Gosh, now that I’m gone, what will I have to be angry about??
