My IQ Dropped 10 Points

Giddy The condo board was very quick to approve my rental application. They said it was going to take up to two weeks. It took two days. I got the keys yesterday and went in to check it today after work.

Even though it is physically closer to work, it actually took longer to get there because there isn't a direct subway train. As I was walking down 3rd Ave, I could feel my IQ going down I as I became an East Sider.

The upside of this apartment is that I can actually look out the window and see something other than the ugly 9x9 foot "court yard" of my current building. The building is stuck amidst some tall buildings, so I can't actually see far. Luckily my apartment is on the 10th floor, just taller than the most immediate buildings around it, so I could peek over those buildings and make out Chrysler building, and I can see the Waldorf-Astoria lying on my bed. At least I get natural light. The other upside is that it's big. It's about the same size as my San Francisco apartment, and when I was there I felt very comfortable.

I didn't plan to have the apartment so soon, and had planned to move in April, but now I am anxious to move in. The contrast between that place and this is too much.

Praying for disaster I've been working on unit testing at work, a part of software engineering that I don't care much for. I understand its utility in theory, but I've never seen its usefulness in practice. I had to port the entire testing framework from our old project. I was entirely unmotivated yesterday. It didn't help that I only got 5 hours of sleep the night before.

Late yesterday, however, the QA thought they found a bug in the system we're about to release, and I was so happy that I can track it down instead of porting old code. This is a bad sign that I was hoping for some calamity to happen to take me away from my assigned task.

It turn out the bug came from outside our system, so we can't fix it anyway. Oh well.
