Best Sports Cars of the century
The Porsche 356 is the 1st Porsche production car and it was sold from 1948 through 1965. Though many consider Porsche 64 as being the first automobile produced by the German company, the 64 was never industrially produced and it was only a drivable test-mule. The 364 was made by Ferdinand Porsche and his boy, Ferry Porsche, designed by Erwin Komenda and its engine features derived from the Volkswagen Beetle, deigned by Mr. Porsche Senior. The models available were at first coupe, cabriolet ( luxury convertible ) and then roadster ( a stripped down convertible ) .Before being withdrawn in 1965, it went thru several changes. The most desirable versions were 356′Carrera’ ( often sold for well over $150,000 ),’Super 90′ and’Speedster’. In latter 50s, the first selling price for a Porsche was $4,000.
In 1954, Max Hoffman, the sole importer of Porsches into united states required a lower price, racier version for the Yank marker. Therefore , the company made 356′Speedster’ that turned into an instant hit thanks to the low, raked window ( simply removable for weekend racing ), bucket seats, and minimal folding top. Nowadays, this car is still really appreciated as it is sold for over $100,000 and it’s been used in several films, including 48 Hours, its follow up – Another 48 Hours and Top Gun. In 1957, the production of Speedster peaked at 1,171 automobiles. In 1959 it was replaced by the Convertible D model, which featured a taller, more effective windshield, glass side windows, and more comfortable seats.
Year after year, the basic shape of Porsche 356 remained the same and was easily recognized and remarked, although changes were made, especially in the mechanical area. Coupe and cabriolet models were produced each year up to 1965, with the last 356B Roadster built in early 1963. The final modelbuild was 356 C that featured disc brakes and the strongest pushrod engine Porsche so far : the 95HP’SC’.

I'm looking for a porsche 356C for Sale?
anyone know of what this model goes for price wise, what is the best year the 356 was made ?
Thanks for the great answers. I just like the 356c because I saw one in California- very nice restored car. Owner wouldn't part with it.
Check on ebay. Sometimes the cars there are listed as advertising (Call 'em up and see what it'll really take to buy a specific car.); however, you'll see what's available and get an idea of prices. I was just looking at a beautiful 356 A for sale on ebay for only $129,000.
The C was the last car before the 911/912 body introduction, and the eventual demise of the four-cylinder air-cooled engine. They were built through the mid 60s, so that was the Porsche of my youth. I understand your interest: by then Porsche was famous for simple (Teutonic), durable design in a small, fun to own and drive size.
Even then the cars were expensive, a new 356 C cost around $6,000, or nearly as much as a Cadillac in 1963! Get a superbly restored one now for under $100,000, and you've got a deal.
